Description : Cemetery on Shemya Island Alaska. Buried here are two Russian Monks who died and were buried here in late 1800 early 1900. During WWII, US Servicemen of the Army Air Corp were stationed here for refueling and attack missions against the Japanese fleet. When soldiers died, they were buried in the cemetery found on the island. Circa 1954, the US servicemen were repatriated to the mainland U.S. The Monks remains were discovered and as they were Russian were left on the Island.
