| Description | : | The Shepard family cemetery contains as least six gravestones, including those of Isaac and Sarah Shepard who helped establish the Pleasant Ridge community in 1848, home to the first African American settlement in Wisconsin. The burial ground is surrounded on three sides by the Lancaster Ag Reseach Station. Although the land deed specifically excludes this half-acre area plot from the university ownership.
