Description : The Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof in Shisdra was established in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral during the occupation by the Germans in World War 2. Much of Shisdra, including the Cathedral, was destroyed during the Russian offensive to retake the town and the subsequent withdrawal of the German troops. After the liberation of Shisdra the ruined Cathedral was replaced by the House of Culture and the cemetery was levelled to became a Square. So far none of the bodies have been recovered by the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge [German War Graves Commission] and presumably still lie buried in the same place.
