Description	:	Sound Church was one of the first Methodist Societies established in Sussex County, Delaware. Organized by Rev. Freeborn Garretson, "the traveling preacher" on April 3, 1779. In 1784 the original Sound Church was constructed at the top of a small stream that ran east along Derrickson Creek, known as the head of a sound, which resulted in the church's present name.
