Description | : | Saint Matthew is a church on the island of Saint Helena and is part of the Diocese of St Helena. It is situated in Hutt's Gate in the Longwood district. The original building was constructed in 1861. With the cornerstone being laid by GovernorâPcs wife Lady Drummond Hay. There is an attached churchyard and an extention near by. By 1925, the attached churchyard had become full and H. W. Solomon gave land on the lower slopes of HalleyâPcs Mount for an extension. By 1953, the extension was full. |
