Description	:	The First Covenant Church of Bessemer was founded by a group of Swedish immigrants. It was chartered April 9, 1890 as the Swedish Congregational Church. On August 10, 1890 the building which stands today was dedicated. The first burial in the adjoining cemetery was in 1891. The Church joined the Swedish Mission Covenant of America (now known as the Evangelical Covenant Church) on March 4, 1892. In 1967, the church officially changed its name from Swedish Mission Church to First Covenant Church of Bessemer. In 1971, adjoining property was purchased for much needed cemetery plots.
