Description | : | Auschwitz sub-camp. In use from August-September 1944 (Tschechowitz I - 100 prisoners) and September 1944-January 1945 (Tschechowitz II - 600 prisoners). Tschechowitz I was established to remove unexploded bombs from the oil refinery, match factory and train station in Czechowice. Jews were quartered in the walk-in freezer and bottling room of a disused beer bottling facility. SS-Oberscharführer Wilhelm Claussen was the sub-camp director.
