Description	:	After the Civil War, the city of Jackson, Mississippi, was occupied for a number of years by the 16th Regiment of U.S. Infantry. The military garrison was located on the west side of S. Gallatin Street at Hooker Street, in the western part of the city, according to Henry C. Daniel's 1875 Map of Jackson. A list of interments in the Post Cemetery is recorded at page 130 in the U.S. Military Burial Registers 1768-1921 (created by the Cemetery Branch of the Office of the Quartermaster General). The Jackson newspaper, The Weekly Clarion, printed articles about sickness (yellow fever?) in the camp in issues dated October 26 and November 2, 1871.
