The Znamenskaya Church, the bell tower, walls and towers, most of the monastery buildings, and the necropolis were robbed and destroyed by the Soviet - Bolshevik Terrorists, under the guidance of Lenin and Trotsky, Stalin. Spaso-Preobrazhensky in Soviet times was used as a warehouse, then as a building of a marine school, Assumption Cathedral - as a repository of the State Archives of the Tula Region. In 1974, the Transfiguration Cathedral received the status of an architectural monument of federal significance. In the 1980s, some parts of the facade of the Assumption Cathedral were restored. In 1991, it also received the status of an architectural monument of federal significance.
