"It is within our lifetime that Second Street, Lansingburgh, now 102nd Street, was formerly called Van Schaick Street and that was the northern boundary of the old Van Schaick farm, which spread out over the hill and included most of Albia, and if one should drive out Winter Street, Troy, and take the first country road to the south, which later joins the New York post road, one would observe at this time before the summer foliage screens its view, a few hundred feet south of Winter Street, and to the right of the road, a small burying ground with a fence enclosing it. This is the old burying grounds of the Van Schaick farm and in it may be found the tablets of [...] the Van Schaicks, particularly Garret Van Schaick, whose name is preserved for Trojans in the old firm name of G. V. S. Quackenbush & Co., the founder of that department store business having been named for [him]." […] He also made a videotape of the gravestones to make sure there was a record of their presence. “Last week [he] returned to find the stones again missing — but nowhere in sight. A few pieces of shattered gravestones lie about on the hill, and one base can be seen in the ground.” O’Brien, Tim. “Gravestones missing from Troy Cemetery; Fence, too, is removed from place of rest for graves near landfill.” Albany Times Union.
