Description	:	The Cemetery surrounds the present church. On top of the church spire is the year 1830. That summer, the church was consecrated. The Church had been ready for use and dedication towards the end of 1829, but the bishop did not think it was "necessary to hasten the new church when the old Vennesland Church was still in good condition." That made it necessary to wait until summer 1830. In many ways the Vennesla church reminds one of a medieval church with its thick whitewashed stone walls. That made it necessary to wait until summer 1830. In many ways the Vennesla church reminds one of a medieval church with its thick whitewashed stone walls. It not much different than the Oddernes church which has celebrated its 950-year anniversary. Construction time for the Vennesla Church was three and a half years, and it is said that the stones used in the wall were taken from the other side of the river. These could be transported across the river when the ice was strong. Additionly, there was lack of money - then as now. There was also a break from work when the diocese board of directors discovered that the masonry work was not carried out as agreed. In the long-wall, south windows were bricked square and not with bows at the top as the drawings showed. The north wall had only one window, and the drawing showed four. There was some discussion, and letter writing, as to what should now be done, the result was that the walls and the windows stayed as the masons had made them. Otherwise, the walls would have been torn down and redone. Old Vennesla Church stood between the present church and the road, and it was demolished after the new Church was completed. Some of the furnishings from the old church were taken into the new building. Among others, the altarpiece from 1650 A.D., a collection box and a chasuble moved into the new church. But the oldest item found in the church is probably a flat tombstone which is enshrined in the exit end of the church. It is carved into a cross, and it is claimed that this tombstone originated from the Middle Ages.
