Description	:	The Wemyss Burial Vault is a walled enclosure located in a small woodland, near the old Doocot, towards the south of Hill of Tarvit Mansion. The house (and estate) at this location was previously named Wemyss Hall and was owned by the Wemyss family for over 200 years. It was sold to a Dundee based industrialist and financier, Frederick Bower Sharp, in 1904 but the Wemyss family retained control of the burial ground. Read More	The Wemyss Burial Vault is a walled enclosure located in a small woodland, near the old Doocot, towards the south of Hill of Tarvit Mansion. The house (and estate) at this location was previously named Wemyss Hall and was owned by the Wemyss family for over 200 years. It was sold to a Dundee based industrialist and financier, Frederick Bower Sharp, in 1904 but the Wemyss family retained control of the burial ground. The new owner commissioned the architect Sir Robert Lorimer to design the extensive alterations to the mansion house. Lorimer’s design largely demolished the original structure to create a new building, which was given the name of Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse. Lorimer also designed the terraced gardens to the south of the house. When the above owner's daughter, Miss E.C. Sharp, died she bequeathed the mansion, its contents and the estate to the National Trust for Scotland who remain its current owners. The burial ground is not maintained by Fife Council and is now badly overgrown by weeds. The iron access gates are chain linked and padlocked. There are, in 2016, 10 memorial plaques and stones visible.
