Description	:	The first known burial here was Minnie Smith, 9-year old daughter of A. J. Smith and wife, Lucy (Huddlestin). Minnie died in late Dec 1883, of scarlet fever and was buried Dec 31 in "the park about one mile below the town, a very pretty site for a grave yard" (White Pine Cone newspaper, 4 Jan 1884, p. 3). In the ensuing months, other children died of the same disease, notably George Hutchison, age 9, in January 1884. Prior to Minnie’s burial, it appears that most deceased were packed in ice and shipped via railroad for burial elsewhere. By 1910, the White Pine mining camp had a mere 15-20 residents. The few burials occurring after this date are typically related to miners and their families who sporadically occupied the area when mines were re-opened. The last known burial here was Frank Fassler in 1933.
