| Description | : | Located on the property of the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission, this burial ground is situated between a retaining wall for the neighboring condominium and the right-of-way of Little Falls Parkway. It is the only known family burial ground of former slaves who formed a black community on River Road near the District of Columbia line after the Civil War. In 1865 Nelson Wood, a blacksmith from Virginia, married Mary Ann, a freed slave from this property and they obtained two acres of land along River Road from the Counselman family (Nov. 4, 1874 Liber EBP 11, Folio 282)....
