Harold Karl Hoven was born July 30, 1916, to Helmer and Mayme (Wolff) Hoven in Webster Township. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Webster. Upon returning to Webster, he became the manager... Read More	WEBSTER - Harold Hoven, 88, Webster, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in a care center at Webster. Harold Karl Hoven was born July 30, 1916, to Helmer and Mayme (Wolff) Hoven in Webster Township. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Webster. He attended grade school at North Webster School and graduated from Webster High School in 1933. After graduation, he began work as a clerk at the Elevator Store in Webster, continuing to work there while attending Luther College in Wahoo, Neb., for two years. Upon returning to Webster, he became the manager of the shoe department at the Elevator Store. In February of 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served until November of 1944. He attained the rank of 2nd Lt. in the medical administration corps and was stationed in Hawaii, Guadalcanal, New Zealand and New Caledonia. He received the Bronze Star. He married Muriel Peterson Sept. 4, 1945, at Webster. The couple made their home in Webster. He continued to work at the Elevator Store until he retired in 1981, for a total of 50 years. He was in the senior choir at the American Lutheran Church for 50 years and served as financial secretary and on the church council. He was a member of Herbert McKennett Post 40 of the Webster American Legion. He enjoyed music, reading, fishing, hunting and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel in 1996. Survivors include three sons, David (Patti) Hoven of Edina, Minn., Duane (Faye) Hoven of Fargo, N.D., and Mark (Janelle) Hoven of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
