Description	:	John Brooks, Sioux Falls, SD, died October 2, 2015, at Southridge Health Care. John M. Brooks was born November 25, 1925, in Sioux Falls, SD, to David and Mary (Goebel) Brooks. He was raised in Sioux Falls, where in 1944 he graduated from Washington Senior High School. John immediately entered military service, joining the US Marine Corps. Brooks was born November 25, 1925, in Sioux Falls, SD, to David and Mary (Goebel) Brooks. He was raised in Sioux Falls, where in 1944 he graduated from Washington Senior High School. John immediately entered military service, joining the US Marine Corps. Upon his discharge in 1946, he attended Augustana College where he met his future wife. John was united in marriage to Elizabeth Willson in Sioux Falls in August, 1947. The couple moved to Vermillion, SD, and attended USD. John graduated from USD earning a BS degree in business, and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves. . Returning to Sioux Falls, John worked for International Harvester and later transferred to Rapid City, SD. As war broke out in Korea, John returned to military service and fought overseas in the US Army where he commanded a platoon. Discharged from service in 1954 for the second time, he returned to worked for IH. In March 1968, the family moved to St. Paul, MN, where he became branch manager with IH Trucks. In the early 1970s, they moved to Chicago, IL, where John worked in the home office. He retired in the early 1980s. Following retirement, John and Elizabeth enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They eventually purchased a residence in Peoria, AZ. John was a talented and avid golfer, and also enjoyed fishing in Minnesota Lakes and in Canada. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, El Riad Shrine, Minnehaha Country Club, and the VFW. Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Barbara (Donald) Taschner of Hackensack, MN; brother, Frank (Gilma) Brooks, Sioux Falls, SD; and son-in-law, Donald Castella, Lincolnshire, IL. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Susan Castella and Lisa Brooks; and a sister, Beverly (Carlton) Ray. Visitation begins at noon, Monday, October 5, 2015, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 6:00 Monday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. Friends are also welcome to attended the Graveside Services for John, Elizabeth, Susan and Lisa, which will be held at 10:00 Tuesday morning at Mt.
