| Description | : | Hunter served as a 1st Sgt. in Co. G, 5th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. He was recommended for promotion on August 6, 1863 and promoted to 2nd Lt. mustering into Co. G, 3rd Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry on October 6, 1863. He became sick in July 1864 at Mooresville, Alabama where he entered the brigade hospital. Hunter was admitted in the officer's hospital in Nashville on August 18, 1864 and on October 3, 1864, Hunter requested a leave of absence based on a surgeon's certificate of disability which stated he had been suffering from a obstinate tertian intermittent fever...
