He was a genuine pioneer, though born in Keokuk county, Ia., March 14, 1869. He came to Osborne county in 1873 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Coop and remained under the parental roof until 22 years of age,when he began farming for himself in Graham county. "Lige" Coop, as he was commonly called, was united in mariage on February 3rd, 1905, to Miss Maggie Berkshire at Corydon, Ind., and continued tilling Graham county soil for twenty-six years, at which time he removed his wife and children, Ruth and Quincy, to Logan county, where he has been since resided, near the little town of Gage City, becoming well to do. The deceased, like his two younger brother< Moses and Earl, was known and admired for his honesty, truthfulness and sense or morality. He attained his education at the little one room McStay school house, the district of which has recently been added to the Downs school. For the past few months Mr. Coop had been suffering and unable to work. Suspecting his trouble to be of a cancerous nature, he went to Hays on Wednesday, June 7th, and the 12th of June submitted to a surgical operation. Death followed on Friday, June 15th. Funeral services were held from the Downs Baptist church at 3 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Rev. T.W. Curtis of Bonner Springs and assisted by Rev. J.D. Kelly. Interment was made in the Downs cemetery. Mrs. Senia Coop Hudson of Eldorado, Mr. ad Mrs. Walter Sellers of Wakeeney and R. J. Coop of Morland were in attendance at the obsequies. The pallbearers were: J.W. Bottorff, A. Edwards, W.E. Bates, Cliff Beaty, Walter Foster and Walter Ratcliff.
