| Description | : | Son of Paul "S," was a teacher who received his education by walking four miles to school each day until he was 18 years old. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 28th North Carolina Infantry at Liberty Mills, Virginia, on February 10, 1864. He did not support the cause of slavery. On May 12, 1864, he was wounded during the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. Gangrene developed in his thigh wound, and he was sent home to recuperate.
