Description	:	Doland - Aaron Oliver Labrie, 84, of Doland died July 12, 2005, at his home in Doland. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Doland. Father Thomas Vazhappilly will officiate. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Frankfort with full military rites. Visitation will be Friday from 1-3:30 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home and from 5-7 p.m. at the church, with the family present. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church. Aaron was born on Jan. 31, 1921, to Oliver J. and Bernice (Jansen) Labrie, Jr. He graduated from Doland H.S. in 1938. Aaron served his country in the United States Army 96th Infantry Division from 1942-1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze stars while stationed on the island of Okinawa during WWII. After returning to the states Aaron married Barbara Joyce Sheldon on July 2, 1946, in Doland. They farmed three miles northwest of Doland until 1957 when they moved into Aaron's grandparents' former home in Doland. Aaron continued to reside in town and farm after Barbara's death in 1991. He was a member of the Redfield VFW and was a past post commander, American Legion of Doland, St. Joseph parish and a 4-H club leader. Aaron loved chewing Dentyne gum, playing cards, teasing his grandchildren, watching them compete in sports, and staying knowledgeable of news and sports at all levels. But most of all he will be remembered for his kind, generous heart, and always putting God, and others before himself. Aaron is survived by eight children: Lonnie (Mary) Labrie of Doland, Marsha (Greg) Selle of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shiela (Jerry) Mason of Frankfort, S.D., Patty Labrie of Grand Island, Neb., Bonnie (Jeff) Kisler of Marquette, Neb., Cindy (Tom) Riddle of Mitchell, S.D., Randy (Cindy) Labrie of Doland, S.D., and Terry Labrie of Sioux Falls, S.D. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren: Matt (Jen) Labrie, Mark (Becky) Labrie, Jeremy Labrie, Jason Labrie, Erin (Troy) von Holdt, Laura Selle, Jill (Adam) Kragthorpe, Brad (Tammy) Mason, Jared (Val) Mason, Christine (Brian) Hildebrandt, Joe (Lindsay) Kisler, Megan Kisler, Michael (Ashley) Riddle, Niccole (Charlie) Mack, John Riddle, Lauren Labrie, Arin, Aric, Arie and Arid Boschee, Owen Labrie and Aaron Labrie. Also left to cherish his memory are 12 great-grandchildren: Jaxon Labrie, Kadin, Regan, and Greeley Labrie, Connor von Holdt, Brannon, Kaitlyn and Calista Mason, Dylan and Hunter Mason, Tristen Hildebrandt, and Reese Riddle. Additional survivors are three sisters-in-law: Joan Campbell, Ardyce Labrie and Florence Sheldon and a brother-in-law: Sherm Weiss. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara in 1991, three brothers: Vincent, Arnold and Dale, and one sister: Lorene Petersen. Published in the Aberdeen News on 7/15/2005.
