Description	:	OAKBORO - Aaron Winfred Smith, 80, 586 West 2nd Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at his home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Whitecotton will officiate. Burial will be at Oakboro Cemetery, Oakboro, N.C. Military rites will be performed by Stanly County DAV Chapter No. 27. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Born Aug.15, 1923, in Stanly County he was the son of the late Mamie Barbee Smith and David Smith. He worked at Cannon Mills in the card room as supervisor and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. Mr. Smith was a member of the American Legion, New Salem Post No. 0440 and in his retirement he worked as a security guard at Twin Harbor Camp Ground in Mount Gilead. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Marshville, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Lee Chaney Smith in January of 2002 and also by his parents, David Smith and Mamie Barbee Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Deloris Smith Crisco, Oakboro, N.C.; two sisters, Jewell Smith Thompson, Concord, and Annie Lee Smith Hatley, Stanfield; a special friend, Ms. Lonnie Harvell, Concord; two grandsons, James T. Crisco, Oakboro, and Travis Aaron Crisco, Oakboro; a granddaughter, Tiffany Lee Walker, Locust; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor Curlee, Tyler Curlee, C.J. Crisco and Nathan Crisco. Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle is in charge of arrangements.
