One of the hardest tasks that has confronted the editor of The Journal in his twenty-two years of experience in newspaper work, comes at this time when he is called upon to chronicle the death of his mother, Mrs. F.E. Peet, which occurred at her home in Lamont, Iowa, at 11:15 o'clock Monday evening, July 12th, 1915. Although Mother had been suffering from a malignant trouble for some time past, yet there is great consolation to us in knowing that the final moments of her life were free from pain and her departure from this world into the great beyond was as easy as that of a child sinking into a peaceful slumber. Mother's maiden name was Abigail Augusta Barker, the date and place of her birth being May 22nd, 1857, at Mayville, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Late in that same year her parents moved to Iowa, settling at Delhi, in which vicinity she grew to womanhood. On the 1st day of April, 1875, she was married to Fred E. Peet, they starting housekeeping on a farm near Delaware. To them wre born four children: Floyd A. Peet, of Edgewood, Iowa; George Earl, who died when but six months of age; Flora Adelaide Peet-White, now living at Los Angeles, California; and Hattie Ethelyn, who died in 1896 at Lamont. All of Father's and Mother's life has been spent in Iowa with the exception of three years spent in Wisconsin. The first eight years after their marriage they lived near Delaware, then moved to Edgewood, and later bouth the farm east of this place which is now owned by Mrs. George Culbertson and son. leaving the farm in 1885, they went to Madison, Wisconsin, where they remained three years, returning to Iowa in '88. In the fall of 1892, having sold the farm to Mr. Culbertson, they moved to Edgewood, occupying the old Schuyler Peet house in teh south part of town until the following summer when they build the house now owned by D.T. Smith. In February 1894 they disposed of their Edgewood property and moved to Lamont which place has been their home since that time. Mother was converted in early childhood and joined the Baptist church, retaining her membership in said church up to the time of her death. She was also a member of the W.R.C., Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America, Mystic Toilers and Maccabees, holding her membership in the latter organization in a hive at Los Angeles. She had made several trips to the west coast country, which was in a measure, beneficial to her health, but later developments proved beyond medical skill to combat. The funeral services were held at the home in Lamont, Iowa, on Saturday forenoon, July 17, 1915, being deferred until the arrival of the only daughter. Rev. Williams, pastor of the Baptist church at Lamont, conducted the services, music for the occasion being furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Greenwalt and Messrs. Ray Blackburn and Henry Fowler. The remains were brought to Edgewood for interment in the old home cemetery, followed by a large number of sorrowing and sympathizing friends. Besides the immediate family there are left to mourn, three brothers, three sisters and many other relatives. To All Friends.
