Smith was born November 29, 1823, in Newbury, Vermont, and lived at home until he was twenty-one years of age. He then went to Lowell, Massachusetts, where he was employed in a factory. There he met Miss Mary Wyman, to whom he was married July 2, 1849, moving the same day onto the old home which he had purchased from his father, in Newbury, Vermont, where he lived three years, where one girl was born to them, Mrs. E. Smith was born November 29, 1823, in Newbury, Vermont, and lived at home until he was twenty-one years of age. He then went to Lowell, Massachusetts, where he was employed in a factory. There he met Miss Mary Wyman, to whom he was married July 2, 1849, moving the same day onto the old home which he had purchased from his father, in Newbury, Vermont, where he lived three years, where one girl was born to them, Mrs. E. K. Newton. From there he moved to Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, where six boys were born to them. The oldest, Norman W., deceased; Russell J,, died in infancy; Edward N., deceased; Orvis W., of Dillon, Montana; Abel D. of North Yakima, Washington; and Anson W. of Seward. The family moved to Nebraska in 1871, where he and his wife endured the hardships of a pioneer life, until 1898, when his faithful wife was called home. He has made his home with his son, Anson, since. He died September 1, 1918, at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 2 days. He was converted and joined the church while living in Wisconsin. After coming to Nebraska he transferred his membership to the M. E. church. His faith endured to the last. The funeral was held from the home of Anson Smith at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B. L. Story.
