Description	:	Georgetown Enquirer October 06 1886 Death of Uncle Abe Mr Able Goldfinch for many years a resident of Georgetown died on last Tuesday night the 28th ult at his residence on Prince Street after a brief illness the result of a fall combined with the weakness of advanced age. He was found on Wednesday morning seated in a chair in his bedroom dead and in the attitude of reaching out for some object. He was found on Wednesday morning seated in a chair in his bedroom dead and in the attitude of reaching out for some object. The funeral services were conducted at the ME Church on Wednesday afternoon the Rev AH Lester officiating and were attended by a number of friends of the deceased. The pall bearers were Mr AP Hazard, RW Mustard, JW Tarbox, SV Porter CR Anderson and EW Haselden. The remains of the deceased were interred in the Methodist Church Cemetery. "Uncle Abe" as he was familiarly known to the younger generation was born in East Kent England in August 1811 and was therefore in the seventy sixth year of his age at the time of his death. He was brother of the late Daniel T Goldfinch for many years a carpenter and builder in Georgetown. "Uncle Abe" made a living by truck gardening and fruit raising until within recent years when the infirmities of age unfitted him for active work and he was forced to depend upon the generous charity of a few friends for subsistence. This was cheerfully given him and while the closing years of his life were spent in poverty there is no reason to suppose that he ever suffered for want of the necessities of life. During his illness he was the recipient of medical attention with the kind ministrations of friends did much to alleviate his sufferings. The old gentleman was a familiar figure on the streets of Georgetown. Young and old knew him and all had a pleasant word for the genial quiet and inoffensive man. It was his want to take his basket full of herbs and fruit and go from one end of town to the other crying and peddling his wares. He was a truthful and sincere man remarkable for the peacefulness and benignity of his disposition. All his life long he was a consistent devoted Christian and a staunch member of the Methodist Church at this place. Peace to the ashes of the genial simple and true hearted Englishman?
