ABIGAIL RFID ROBLEE; of' Streets Ridge Abigail Reid Roblee, born May 4th, 1829, died April 20th, 1912. She was not learned in books, neither was she wise in the ways of the world. But now that her life has rounded into the silence from whence it came, its significance appears. Almost sixty years ago she came to Streets Ridge a young wife. She was not a trained nurse, but a born nurse and almost immediately began her ministrations among the sick. No matter what the disease, no weather was too stormy, no roads too bad for her to go at the call of suffering, and she was known for miles around. She knew death intimately. When the dread diphtheria first broke out here, she left her own home and children and went to the assistance of the stricken ones. From house to house she went, giving her time and labor ungrudgingly, nursing the sick and preparing the dead for burial. In one house she closed the eyes of six children, cut down by that loathsome disease, and comforted and consoled the grief stricken parents as best she could,' Her physical endurance was wonderful; she has been known to go with her own young babe on her arm in answer to some suffering woman's call for help, and of the scores of mothers and infants she attended, not one died under her care Small wonder that confidence in her skill was so great that she was often preferred to a doctor. She made no charge, reeei4ing only what grateful patients wished to give, often carrying that same gladly to the next place she went where the need was great. her husband was an invalid for some years, the last two of his life, bed ridden, requiring to be cared for as an infant, and it' was oily then that his faithful nurse found it impossible to attend to the wants of others, and in the six years that she survived him, her weary feet could no longer carry her on errands of mercy, but her toil-worn hands were ever busy with knitting or sewing She loved to sit and talk of the past, and often has the writer laughed, with tears in her eyes, over quaintly told tales of hardship past and gone. Her mind was clear to the very last, and she was confined to her bed but a few days, when the summons came from her Lord and Master to give an account of the talents entrusted to her, and we may well hope she has heard from His Divine lips, "Well done, good and faithful servant; because thou hast been faithful over a few thing, I will place thee over many things; enter 'thou into the joy of thy Lord."
