On Nov. 26, 1786 of record at Barre, Mass., Abigail m. 1) Samuel Hedge Robinson, s. of Joseph Robinson and Martha Hedge, b. of record at Barre, Mass. Jan. 25, 1761. Samuel's father was the great grandson of the immigrant Dea. Thomas Robinson of Scituate and lastly Boston, Mass. by his 2nd wife Mary Cogan. Samuel's mother, Martha Hedge, was a lineal descendant of Stephen Hopkins and his dau. Constance (Hopkins) Snow, both 1620 Mayflower passengers. The only conclusive federal census in which Samuel Hedge Robinson appears is the Aug. 4, 1800 census at Barre, Mass. when he is called Lt. Saml H. Robinson (errantly transcribed as "St. Saml Roberson," but clearly written as stated like a cloudless day at high noon): • p. 1091, Robinson, Lt. Sam(ue)l H., 00010-32010, 7 total When and where Samuel later died cannot be found of record. They had six children at Barre known only by their baptism record at the Barre Cong. Church vs. birth record in the Barre town records, supplemented by their later recorded deaths at Conn.: • i. Sarah "Sally" Robinson, bp. Mar. 30, 1788 at Barre, Mass., d. unmarried Dec. 26, 1858 at Pomfret, Conn. (TR and g.s.). In 1850 she and her widowed mother were residing in the household of Sarah's sister Syrena (Robinson) Sharpe. • ii. William Robinson, bp. Jan. 10, 1790 at Barre; no male child appears in the 1800 census of his father's family, and he is presumed to have died young. • iii. Lucretia Robinson, b. June 22, 1791 (from g.s.), bp. July 31, 1791, d. Apr. 29, 1879 either at Plainfield, Conn. or Pomfret. Conn., latter where she is interred (g.s.); called at marriage of Pomfret, CT, m. there Mar. 28, 1816, George Sharpe, s. of Dea. Robert Sharpe and Sarah Davis, b. Jan. 23, 1786 at Pomfret where he d. Apr. 15, 1862 (g.s.). Five children of the marriage. • iv. Mary "Polly" Robinson, b. Oct. 1, 1793 (from g.s.), bp. Oct. 6, 1793, d. unmarried Sept. 28, 1848 at Pomfret, Conn. (g.s.) • v. Martha Robinson, bp. Nov. 6, 1796, d. unmarried Feb. 2, 1863 at Pomfret, Conn., age 66 (g.s.) In 1860 she was a member of her sister Lucretia (Robinson) Sharpe's household. • vi. Syrena Robinson, b. Aug. 13, 1799 (g.s.), bp. Sept. 29, 1799, d. Feb. 2, 1894 at Pomfret, Conn., age 95 (g.s.); m. Jan. 26, 1820 of record at the Pomfret Cong. Ch., Robert Davis Sharpe, s. of Dea. Robert Sharpe and Sarah Davis, b. Aug. 21, 1790 at Pomfret where he d. Sept. 16, 1878, age 88 (g.s.) No children appear of birth or baptism record for this couple. On May 3, 1820 at Barre, Mass., Abigail m. as his 3rd wife, her widowed brother-in-law, Samuel Leonard, whose 1st wife was Abigail's 17 year older sister, Silence Ripley, who d. in 1793. Samuel Leonard d. Apr. 8, 1841 at Canton, NY while a resident of his son Samuel's household. There were no children of this 2nd marriage and census data suggests that after 1830 Abigail and Samuel were not living together as husband and wife. In the 1840 census of Pomfret, Conn. Abigail and her three unmarried daus. Mary, Martha and Sarah appear to have been residing as members of the two households of Abigail's two married daus. Lucretia and Syrena.
