Born July 13, 1882, to Benjamin Townsend and Martha Bassett in Iowa she married Finis Shanks in April of 1904 in Madison, Kans. He died Feb. 29, 1944. A retired seamstress, Mrs. Shanks moved to Shiloh Manor in 1968. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Madison.
