Person who submitted records not shown. Year of birth shown as "abt 1800." LAND GRANT: 1848 from state of SC CENSUS: Horry Co SC 1840. BIRTH: Abraham Marlow was apparently born in Brunswick Co. NC. He is not shown as owning land until his state land grant in 1848 in Horry Co. [1997: I located a land grant of 1818 in Columbus Co. on the state line, exact location not yet determined. The date of this grant would support his being born about 1797, which would make him 21 in 1818, the most common age for young men to obtain their first grant.] However, he apparently was considered a freeholder in Brunswick as he served on juries. Birth date is estimated as being four years older than known dob of wife Zeruah. RESIDENCE: The area where Abraham is believed to have lived is in Columbus Co. NC on the NC/SC border. However, two of his sons Jesse Marlow and George Marlow give Brunswick Co. NC as their place of birth. When Abraham was born the Columbus Co. area would have been part of Brunswick, but by the time the sons were born Columbus had already been cut off. Conclusion: Abraham moved from present day Columbus to Brunswick before moving to Horry Co. As of 1998 I have never located any land for Abraham in Brunswick Co. COURT MINUTES: Columbus Co NC: 1826 Nov term - Abram Marlow selected as juror for next term 1828 Aug term - Abram Marlow to work on roads under Drysdal Thomas. Others were: John Gore 2 hands; Abram Marlow 1 hand; James Butler 1 hand; Daniel Butler 1 hand; James P. Mentse 1 hand; Ellis Lay 1 hand; Ellis Lay 1 hand (sic);Elias Jenrette 2 hands. Samuel Russ, Isaac Etheridge, & John Gore, Cons. 1829 Feb term - State vs Abram Marlow. General Issue. Jury as in above case & find the def. not guilty as charged. [The charge is not given.] 1829 May term - Abraham Marlow drawn as a juror for next term 1829 Aug term - Abram Marlow served on the jury with Malcolm Downie, Joel Hill, William Norris, Willis Harper, William Strickland, Curtis Spivey, (Veneria), Simon Sibbet, Morris Ward, Hardy Hill, William Raborn, Council Pierce. 1829 Aug term - Abram Marlow chosen for next term [apparently by error] 1830 May term - Abram Marlow drawn as juror for Aug 1830 1833 Nov term - Abram Marlow drawn as juror for Feb 1834 Superior Ct - Columbus Co 1836 Feb term - Abram Marlow drawn as juror for next term County Court 1837 May term - Abram Marlow drawn as 1837 Aug term - Abram Marlow drawn as petit juror for next term 1837. DEATH: His widow Zeruah gave his death date as 29 June 1843 in 1880 when she was 79 years old. I believe his death date was closer to 1845 or 1846 because of son Daniel Dillon's birth date of Sep 1845. Or Daniel Dillon may have been born in 1844 or 1843. Also, there is a 2 year old Martha Brown living with the Zeruah and John Brown (Zeruah's 2nd husband) family in 1850, and she is shown as age 13 in 1860. Pending further evidence I believe she is Zeruah and John's only child, which would have placed their marriage 1846/1847. Zeruah as a 79 year old probably could not remember their exact marriage date.
