Description	:	The Lone Tree Branch, Friday, July 20, 1894 Absalom W. Leonard was born in Trumbull, now Mahoning county, Ohio, July 14, 1834. In 1856 he removed to Fremont township, Johnson county, Iowa, and here he resided until his death, with the exception of three years residence in West Liberty, Iowa. He entered business in Lone Tree in 1872, and was connected with mercantile pursuits ever since. He was for a time agent of the B.C. & N. R’y, and postmaster. Leonard was born in Trumbull, now Mahoning county, Ohio, July 14, 1834. In 1856 he removed to Fremont township, Johnson county, Iowa, and here he resided until his death, with the exception of three years residence in West Liberty, Iowa. He entered business in Lone Tree in 1872, and was connected with mercantile pursuits ever since. He was for a time agent of the B.C. & N. R’y, and postmaster. At the time of his death he was senior partner in the firm of Leonard &Ritter, and vice president of our local bank. Although thus in business relations with many people for many years, no breath of suspicion was ever heard against his probity and integrity. He was among the first members of the Methodist Episcopal church in this community, and has been for years a pillar in that communion. At one time he held for several years the position of class leader, steward, Sunday school superintendent and chorister. Of solid piety and faithfulness, his path was that of the just, shining more and more into the perfect day. In 1857 he was married to Louisa A. Hazen, she being deceased, he was united in 1875 to Sarah T. Nelson. Four daughters survive, the fruit of this union. Being again bereaved by the death of his wife, he was in 1889 married to Amanda H. Carl, who survives to mourn him. He died July 12th and was buried July 14th, on the sixtieth anniversary of his birth. His brother, Rev. A. B. Leonard, D.D., Missionary secretary of the M. E. Church, reached the house of the deceased only in time for the funeral, which was preached in the presence of a great concourse by his pastor Rev. A. E. Buriff, assisted by Rev. Coggeshall, of Nichols, and Rev. Ream, of the Reformed church. The bereaved family desire to thank their friends for the sympathy and help by them extended during the sickness and in the last hours of their husband and father.
