Services were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, at Canton Methodist Church for Mrs. Ada Beck. Mrs. Beck died at a Sioux Falls hospital Thursday, Jan. 7, at the age of 95 years, nine months and nine days. Officiating ministers were Dr. Arnold Herbst of First Methodist Church in Sioux Falls and Rev. Holman Cowherd of Canton Methodist Church. Delwin Kuhns was soloist. Mrs. Beck died at a Sioux Falls hospital Thursday, Jan. 7, at the age of 95 years, nine months and nine days. Mrs. Beck was born March 28, 1869, at Freeport, Ill., to John and Anna Helder. She was married to Frank Beck on Jan. 5, 1915. They made their home in Canton. She was an active member of Canton Methodist Church and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Mrs. Beck wrote poetry and helped raise funds for the Retarded Childrens Association. Survivors include two step sons, Dr. Frank Beck of Alta Loma and Elmer Beck of Santa Susana, Calif., a step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. R. A. Beck of Sioux Falls, 15 grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews." Ada and her twin sister Ida, were the youngest of nine children. Their mother died when they were 18 months old and the girls were raised by separate foster families, Ada by Lucy Jenne in Ogle County, IL, and Ida by David and Elizabeth Fager in Douglas Co, KS. Ada taught school for 24 years until her marriage.
