Description	:	Our mother, Ada Cecilia (Sampson) Elliott, born December 6, 1920, a resident of Littleton, CO , formerly Grand Forks, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, December 31. Mom was the eldest of 7 children born to Chester C.O. and Thelma A. (Lowe) Sampson of the Lazy SS Ranch south of Edmore. She graduated from Edmore High School and obtained a teaching certificate from Minot State Teacher's College. Ada taught at the Odessa, St. Joe, Triumph and Royal Township schools in Ramsey County. Read More	Our mother, Ada Cecilia (Sampson) Elliott, born December 6, 1920, a resident of Littleton, CO , formerly Grand Forks, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, December 31. Mom was the eldest of 7 children born to Chester C.O. and Thelma A. (Lowe) Sampson of the Lazy SS Ranch south of Edmore. She graduated from Edmore High School and obtained a teaching certificate from Minot State Teacher's College. Ada taught at the Odessa, St. Joe, Triumph and Royal Township schools in Ramsey County. It was while living with the Royal Township school board president Jay J. Elliott and his wife Rosa (Wittkopf) near Starkweather, ND, that she me t her future husband, Miles. They married September 8, 1943 while Miles was on leave prior t o dispatch with the 76th General Hospital for England. After raising their children, Ada returned to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks , completing her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, majoring in Special Education. She began an ew to teach in her chosen profession as a Special Education teacher in the Grand Forks Public School system, teaching at Winship, West and Lewis and Clark elementary schools until retiring in 1984. In "retirement" Ada volunteered her time to United Lutheran, Salvation Army, Valley 4000, ARC Thrift store, prepared taxes at the Senior Citizen Center and served as a lobby 1st with the "Silver Haired Assembly" in Bismarck. Ada loved her United Lutheran Church and Camp Shalom families, along with singing and listening to the "Joyful" noise of her children and their practices. She traveled the world with Mil es, visiting all continents but Antarctica, for "Antarctica had nothing that North Dakota couldn't offer." They renewed their wedding vows in Galilee, rode camels under the watchful eye s of the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids, strolled the Great Wall of China, roamed the Louvre and witnessed a bank robbery in Paris, watched the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace , toured the castles in Ireland, Germany, Moscow and St. Petersburg, ate "real" lefse in Norway, re-visited Normandy and the Ardennes Forest where Miles had served on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge, got lost in Rio De Janeiro, rode to the top of the Space Needle with Jerry Lewis at the '64 World's Fair in Seattle, were amazed by the greenery of the pastures of Ne w Zealand, watched the Australian Open Golf Tournament, visited all 50 states' capitals and t o cap it off, visited all "13" North Dakota State Parks in 1990-1991. They spent their last night together in the "Centennial Log Cabin at Cross Ranch" at the final park on their journey . Her love and partner in life for 48 years passed the following day, July 25, 1991. Ada will forever be remembered by her devoted siblings, children, grand and great grandchildren, long-time friend of over 60 years Betty Jo Weekley, un-countable former students, fellow parishioners and friends whose lives she blessed. She is survived by her sister Carol of Edmore; brothers Oliver of Edmore and Ole (Delores "Babe" Erickson) of Fargo; daughters Billie Jo (Daniel) Rylance of Oshkosh, WI and Robbie (Gerald) McGurran of Littleton, CO; sons Robert (Dawn Gilbraith) of Fargo and J.C. (Pam Anderson) o f Casper, WY and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Her life was a blessing to us all. Ada was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Alda (Willard) Sobak of Fairdale and Connie (R.G. "Butch") Voss of Bartlesville, OK and her brother Charles Lowe. Ada and Miles donated their remains to the University of North Dakota Anatomy Department. A marker will be placed next to her husband's in Concordia Cemetery in Edmore and internment wil l be at a later date. A Prayer Service will be held at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks Saturday evening at 5: 00 PM for those wishing to attend. Ada's wish was that memorials be offered to the United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks Mission , or Salvation Army
