Mrs. Ada Elvira Ross, 77, widow of the late D.C. (Clint) Ross and a longtime resident of this county and of Audubon, died Monday at 3:45 a.m. at the home of her granddaughter Mrs. Hans Peterson and family, in this city. Complications incident to advanced age were responsible for her death. She had been ill for 15 weeks and bedfast approximately eight weeks. Since the death of her husband more than 10 years ago, she had made her home most of the time with Mr. and Mrs. Petersen. Mrs. Petersen, the former Miss Alice Ross, was reared in her grandmother's home from babyhood, following the death of her mother. Born in Iowa Mrs. Ross whose maiden name was Ferguson, was born Aug. 17, 1861 at Timber Creek, Marshall county, Ia., a daughter of the late Joseph Martin and Elizabeth Ferguson. She moved with her parents to Crawford county, Ia. In 1874. They were among the earliest settlers of their community there. Later she lived briefly with her parents at Albion, Ia. And Manning, Ia. Her marriage to Mr. Ross took place at Manning August 9, 1884. To This County They spent all of their married life in Audubon county, living on a farm in Douglas township until coming to Audubon March 7, 1901. Mrs. Ross' death occurred here May 18, 1928. Mrs. Ross had been a member of the Christian church sine young womanhood. She had no children of her own but reared a stepson, C. E. Ross, now of Wichita, Kansas. Other children aside from Mr. Ross and his daughter (Mrs. Petersen of this city), were at times given a home with her. Survivors, aside from the step-son, include seven grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Jane Hockett, Manning, Ia., and Mrs. Martha Ferguson, Gillette, Wyoming. The brother is Amasa Ferguson, Grand Junction, Colo. There are several nieces and nephews. One of the former, Mrs. Lula Coulter, of Gildden, Ia., assisted in care of Mrs. Ross during her final illness. Services Wednesday Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Audubon Christian church. The Rev. Ira E. Carney, pastor of that church, officiated, assisted by Rev. LaVerne Morris, Oakland, Ia., a former pastor here. Burial took place in Maple Grove cemetery. Advocate-Republican, Audubon, Iowa, December 29, 1938
