Description	:	Ada Ownby, Ex-Army Nurse, Dies MONTICELLO - Mrs. Ada Ownby, 77, Rt. 5, Monticello,died at 7 a.m. Monday at her home after an extended illness. Born here Sept. 6, 1893, she was the daughter of John F, and Hettie Bowsher Moore. Her marriage was to Kindrick Ownby who preceded her in death. A graduate of the local high school, she attended Valparaiso University and taught school in South Dakota for several years. She entered the Army Nurses Corps and graduated from Walter Reed Hospital in 1921, enlisting in the Army as a surgical nurse in 1922. She and her husband lived three years in... Born here Sept. 6, 1893, she was the daughter of John F, and Hettie Bowsher Moore. Her marriage was to Kindrick Ownby who preceded her in death. A graduate of the local high school, she attended Valparaiso University and taught school in South Dakota for several years. She entered the Army Nurses Corps and graduated from Walter Reed Hospital in 1921, enlisting in the Army as a surgical nurse in 1922. She and her husband lived three years in the Philippines In 1931 she entered the Veterans Administration Service and retired in 1954. Since then she had lived here. Survivors are six brothers and four sisters: C. A. Moore, Reynolds; Chauncey, Florida; Fred Moore, Monticello; James, Gary Morris and John, Remington; Mrs. Phoebe Gerken, South Dakota: Mrs. Doris Heglin, Millbrae Cal.; Mrs. Mildred Smith, Rt. 5, Monticello; Mrs. Eileen Hinkle, Monticello. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home. Friends are asked that memorials be made either to the Auxiliary of the American Legion or the VFW Auxiliary. Final rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ross officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
