Description	:	Ada Laura McCabe, daughter of John B. and Marinda (Stoner) McElvain, was born July 13, 1897 and passed away on September 23, 1994 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville, at the age of 97 years, two months and 10 days. Read More	Ada Laura McCabe, daughter of John B. and Marinda (Stoner) McElvain, was born July 13, 1897 and passed away on September 23, 1994 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville, at the age of 97 years, two months and 10 days. She attended grade school in a county school near her home and graduated from Seymour High School in 1917. Ada made her confession of faith at the First Baptist Church in Seymour in 1914. As a young lady, Ada was an accomplished seamstress and her talent was in great demand. In later years she crocheted and did many other kinds of handiwork which she shared with her family. On September 3, 1922 she was united in marriage to Franklin McCabe. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1980. Ada and Frank lived most of their married life on a farm near Numa where she was active in the farming operation. Upon retirement, they moved to a home in Centerville. They enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas for a number of years. Ada considered her sister's daughters, Donna and Dorothy, "her girls." Their children, although great-nieces and nephews, were like grandchildren to her. She enjoyed her great-great-nieces and nephews very much. She was always a part of their family gatherings.. Ada was a charter member of the Seymour Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #180 in Seymour. She was also a charter member of their neighborhood Booster Club and a member of the 18-80 Club in Centerville. After her husband's death, Ada lived at the Golden Linx Apartments until her health required that she move to the Golden Age Care Center. In addition to her husband, Ada was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Lawrence, and a nephew, Donald McElvain. Left to morun her passing are a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Harley Hibbs, and sister-in-law, Helen McCabe. Also three nieces and seven nephews, Donna Davis, Marjorie Inman, Dorothy DeVore, Marion, Marvelle, Stanley and Forrest McElvain; Harold, Paul and Richard McElvain and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Funeral services were held on September 26, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. from the Randolph Funeral Home, Seymour, with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. A prelude of favorite hymns was played by Jan Berner. "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were sung by Jan and Kim Berner. Pallbearers were Kim Berner, Bruce Davis, Martin DeVore, Brian Draper, Carter Heitmeyer, Ken Kruger, Dan Sales and Rob Singley.
