Va., where she expected to be present at the graduation of her niece, Miss Alma Lowance. Highland Recorder April 12, 1962 Miss Ada Stella Lightner, 79, died unexpectedly Wednesday. April 4 at her home at Mill Gap. Miss Lightner was born at Mill Gap Aug. 15, 1882. a daughter of Anthony and Charlotte Tate Lightner, and had resided there all her life. She is survived by a sister. Mrs. L. L. Lowance, Richmond: a niece. Miss Alma Lowance of Richmond; two nephews. Lewis L. Lowance. Chicago and Ralph Lightner. Ripley. W. Va. She also leaves Miss Sally Sheets, who had made her home with her for 33 years; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Robert Buchanan of Verona. A twin brother, Adam S. Lightner preceded her in death. Highland Recorder March 21, 1919 Mr. Thrasher also acknowledges receipt of pledge card and cash from Miss Ada Lightner, Valley Center, who is entitled a place among the "Victory Girls." March 26, 1928 Construction begins on Miss Ada's new dwelling house. Highland Recorder October 26, 1928 Valley Center News Miss Ada Lightner is now moving into her new dwelling house. Ada Stella Lightner was a spinster, the daughter of Anthony (1836-1916) and Mary Charlotte Tate Lightner (1844-1926) of Valley Center, Mill Gap. Sallie M. Sheets, who shares the headstone with Ada, was another spinster, raised on nearby Back Creek, and was the daughter of William Anderson Sheets (1866-1923) and Rachel Ann Ervin Sheets (1870-1941). Ada and Sallie lived in the family farmhouse on the north side of the divide at Valley Center, across Route 604 from the old Wade Cemetery. Ada's parents, Anthony and Mary Charlotte are buried there along with an infant son who died in 1876. Ada had a twin brother, Adam Samuel Lightner, who died in Ohio in 1923, as well as an older sister named Pearl Lucy Lightner Lowance (1879-1970) who is buried in Rosewood Cemetery, Greenbrier Co., W.
