Description	:	In Memoriam Adam Burkhiser. Adam Burkhiser was born Aug. 25th, 1834, in Baveria [Bavaria], Germany, and passed away at his home in Franklin Twp. Appanoose Co, Ia., on the 27th of Dec. 1926, at the ripe old age of 92 years, 4 months and 2 days. Adam Burkhiser was born Aug. 25th, 1834, in Baveria [Bavaria], Germany, and passed away at his home in Franklin Twp. Appanoose Co, Ia., on the 27th of Dec. 1926, at the ripe old age of 92 years, 4 months and 2 days. When about nine years of age he came with his mother from Germany to America and located in West Virginia, where he grew to manhood and in 1853 was married to Miss Catherine Dayton. In 1855 they came west locating in Lee county, Iowa, where they remained until 1865 when they moved to Appanoose county. In 1870 he bought the farm which has for the past fifty-six years been his home. To Mr. and Mrs. Burkhiser were born eight children, four of which preceded their father in **** being, Mrs. Sarah Bales, Se*le and Cora, also one who died in infancy. The remaining children are Mrs. Mary Ann Proffitt, Grienfild [Greenfield], Iowa; Mrs. Alice Harris, Hastings, Iowa; E. A. Burkhiser, Seymour, Iowa; G. H. Burkhiser, Sanborn, Iowa. In 1873 Mrs. Burkhiser passed away. In 1874 Mr. Burkhiser was married to Miss Elvira Hichenbottom who passed away in 1888. In 1889 Mr. Burkhiser was married to Mrs. Rosina Graber, of Warren, Ohio, who survives him. To this union was born one son Charley Burkhiser, who lived with and cared for his aged father. Mr. Burkhiser was the last of his family to be called, his brothers Robert and John and sisters, Mrs. Hetzler and Mrs. Linden, having passed away several years ago. Beside the children mentioned Mr. Burkhiser is survived by a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one step-daughter, Mrs. Minnie Proffitt, also nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. Mr. Burkhiser had for many years been a member of the Christian church at Mt. Olive, and he enjoyed attending the services as long as health would permit. His life extended through a period of years that witnessed many changes and as an early pioneer, in this community he endured its hardships, but through industry and economy was enabled to accumulate of this world's goods until he was one of the wealthy farmers of the community. He will be greatly missed in the home where he had been confined by extreme age and will also be missed by the community in which he lived.
