Read More	Adam Deuker (As printed in the Polk Progress 5-22-1947) Adam Deuker, the son of Peter and Caroline Deuker was born on August 22, 1866 in Essen, Germany and departed this life May 16th, 1947 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 24 days. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in early infancy and at the age of 14 months, immigrated to America with his parents. Their first home in this country was in Maryland, later moving to Iowa and in 1874 moved to Polk, Nebraska where they homesteaded on a farm southwest of Polk. As a youth, he was confirmed by the Rev. Buerger at Lincoln Creek, there being no Lutheran church in this community at that time. On Septemer 14,1898 he was united in marriage to Flora Menssen, and this union was blessed with five children. Two sons, Harvey and Laurence have preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. Deuker remained on the same farm until 14 years ago when they retired to Polk. At the time of his death he had been a resident of this community for 72 years and had experienced the hardships and drouth of the pioneer days. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, three children: Mrs. Caroline Smith of Polk, Edwin of Valentine, and Mrs. Emaliyne Blase of Hordville, three granddaughters and one grandson. One sister, Mrs. Caroline Bienz of Athens, Penn. And many other relatives and a host of friends. His parents and one brother, William preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the home in Polk and at the Lutheran church Tuesday, May 20th with Rev. C.W. Long officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet consisting of Richard Dankert, Otto Wilshusen, Kenneth Wilshusen and Lavern Schultz, Pall bearers were Clarence Rahrs, John Stohs, Edward Dobberstein, Elmer Wilshusen, Clarence Meerkatz and Victor Blase.
