Read More	Davenport Daily Republic – Apr. 1, 1897 ADAM DONALDSON A venerable pioneer and highly respected resident of Scott County today has become one of the silent majority of mankind, whose voices are hushed in the silence of the tomb, but whose memory does not die in the hearts of their fellow citizens. Yesterday morning at half past 6 o’clock, at his residence, 1622 Brady, occurred the death of Adam Donaldson, whose family name is known far and wide throughout this city and county. Born in Saratoga County, New York, on May 22, 1809, Mr. Donaldson came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township, in October 1839, so this was his fifty-eighth year of residence. He was therefore one of the sturdy pioneers who helped to build up this section of the country. The Old Settlors’ Association, of which he was an honored member, will be particularly pained over his death, as well as all the citizens who knew and admired his sterling qualities. While Mr. Donaldson had been suffering for some time past from a bronchial affliction, due to a cold caught many years ago, his last illness was of a rather short duration. Only a week ago last Saturday he was about as usual, and hitched up his team himself. Mr. Donaldson was married in 1828 to Rachel Houghkerk, of New York, who lived with him in happy wedlock until April 2, 1893, when she went before to the better land. Six children survive, Garrett H., James R., Adam C., Catherine (Mrs. Henry Winrow), Egbert and Peter A. Donaldson. The funeral services will be held at the Valley City hall Friday, April 2, at 1:30 pm. The cortege will leave the residence at 11 a.m. Interment at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
