Read More	Served as a Musician in 2nd Regiment Maryland Infantry Potomac Home Brigade Following Provided by John Fazenbaker The Piedmont Herald, June 25, 1897- - Mr. Adam Johnson, engineer on the Cumberland and Pennsylvania railroad and for many years past a citizen of Westernport, died at his home in the immediate neighborhood of the company's shops, Tuesday evening June 22, 1897. Mr. Johnson had been confined to the house for some five months and more, suffering from pulmonary troubles, hemorrhage of the lungs eventually causing death. He was born October 10, 1840. Formerly he was in the employ of the B&O but for thirty years past he has been an engineer on the C&P, running the passenger engine 25 years of that time. He leaves to mourn him a wife and six children, three sons and three daughters. The sons are Joseph R., Adam E., and John Johnson. The daughters are Mrs. Daniel Brady, Mrs. J. S. Koontz, both of Westernport, and Mrs. James Roberts of Barton. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity holding membership in Allegany Lodge at Barton. He was also a member of Philos Lodge of Odd Fellows of Westernport, Division 437 Brotherhood of Engineers of Cumberland, and Eureka Lodge Knights of Honor of Piedmont. The funeral ceremonies will take this afternoon and be conducted at the M.E. church in Piedmont. ∼Husband of Jane, emigrated to the US with parents Roger E. and Mary E. Johnson, along with his brother Thomas E. Civil War soldier and musician. From his obituary: "Mr. Adam Johnson, of the oldest engineers on the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad died at his home in Westernport last night of lung trouble. Mr. Johnson was about 55 years of age and leaves a widow and several small children surviving him. He entered the employ of the railroad in 1866 or 67 in the capacity of a freight engineer, serving for 10-12 years, since that time he ran the passenger engine and was known and esteemed by every man and woman, and child along the the line of the road from this city to Piedmont. Previous to coming to the C&P railroad, Mr. Johnson was an engineer on the Baltimore and Ohio. The funeral will take place at Westernport, Friday afternoon between 2 and 3 o'clock. In respect to the deceased, his engine, #28 has been draped in mourning.
