Adam Joseph Przybysz was born December 23, 1921 to Joseph & Cecelia (Hoepki) Przybysz in Detroit, MI. He changed to the English translation of his name (Prisbe) in the 1940's. As a kid growing up in the city, Joe raised money as a delivery boy to buy tickets to Detroit Tiger baseball games, a passion that lasted his entire life. Joe met his wife of 62 years, Ann Spitzer of Roscoe while working at the Ford Motor Company's Willow Run bomber plant which produced the B-36. They married in Roscoe on November 4, 1944 and moved there permanently in 1945—quite the culture shock for a city boy. Joe and Ann immediately went into business, operating Prisbe's Café, which serviced the railroad traffic, in those days. After three years, they sold the business and Joe worked for Scherf's Super Value, as a meat cutter, before taking the job of managing the Municipal Liquor Store. Joe's love of baseball led him to form a community baseball team in Roscoe. His athletic skill was legendary and he was the team's ace pitcher and manager. In 1956, Joe and Ann established Jo-Anns Apparel and Gift Shop—a very successful and popular clothing store, which serviced a wide region, and remained in operation for 33 years. In 1964, Joe also took a part-time position as clerk at the Roscoe Post Office, later transferring to the Aberdeen Post Office. Before raising a family of their own, Joe and Ann, raised Joe's siblings one brother and three sisters, due to the premature death of Joe's parents. In 1960, Joe was introduced to the game of golf and promptly became instrumental in building the Roscoe Golf Association and was the organization's first president. He loved the game and spent many hours playing and helping to maintain the course. He enjoyed his friendships and loved attending area tournaments. In 1990, he recorded his first and only hole-in-one on the 165 yard 2nd hole at Roscoe's club. Sports remained an integral aspect of life, especially his beloved Detroit Tigers. He was their biggest and most loyal fan west of the Mississippi. He would drive around listening to broadcasts from WJR-Detroit. Joe and Ann spent their retirement years traveling and enjoying Roscoe's quiet life. He especially enjoyed yard work and decorating for Christmas. Joe was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Roscoe, the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department and the Roscoe Commercial Club. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ann, Roscoe; two sons, Gary Prisbe (Sharon Makowski), Madison, WI and Douglas "George" (Pat Boyd-Prisbe), Black Hills, SD: brother, Jerome (Delores) Prisbe, Roscoe; sister Justine (Carlos) Sunne, Faulkton, SD; grandchildren, Brian (Stacy) Prisbe, Sioux Falls, SD, Heather (Greg) Beal, Madison, WI; Lauren (Nathan) Antonen, Arlington, SD, Amanda Amert, Chicago, IL; four great grandchildren, Ben and Sam (Brian's sons), Noah, (Heather's son) and Morgan (Lauren's daughter), Preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Eve and Germaine.
