Occupation: Laborer - steam railroad. ================================== OBITUARY - News-Journal, North Manchester (IN) - December 9, 1935 WABASH MAN KILLED BY CRANE Adam Obringer, brother of Mrs. William Burkhart of North Manchester, was instantly killed at the Big Four freight yard at Wabash Thursday afternoon when struck by a large clamshell used in unloading coal. For some reason the crane suddenly swung around and the clamshell struck Obringer in the face, almost cutting his head off. Charles Hammer was operating the clamshell and Obringer was his helper. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Wabash and #burial was in Falls Cemetery. Mr. Obringer was the son of Joseph Obringer and wife and was born in Urbana 60 years ago. He married Miss Bertha Golier, who survives, together with three children. The mother lives at Urbana. Coroner Todd Bender investigated and gave a verdict of accidental death. According to the testimony of Charles Huffman who was operating the crane, Obringer was in the coal car. Huffman had swung the crane to the car and stopped it, but the clamshell was swinging back and forth and Obringer walked between it and the side of the car.
