Read More	Daughter of Jesse & Rhoda Salsbury Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa January 7, 1914 ADDA MAY SALSBURY Adda May Salsbury, daughter of Jesse and Rhoda Salsbury, was born Aug. 19, 1895, in Oxford county, Iowa. She died Dec. 31, 1913, at her home in Patterson, at the youthful age of 18 years, 4 months and 12 days. About one half of her life was spent in this community. During this time, Adda, being of a modest, unassuming dispostion, won many friends, who shall miss her from their circle. Her obedience strengthened the bond of parental affection, so that even in death, it is well nigh impossible to acquiesce. The deceased loved to attend the services of the church, rarely indeed did she absent herself from them. Even after sore affliction came upon her, she manifested eagerness to be with the companions in God's house. We have missed her during these weeks from our audience. On Dec. 2nd, while engaged in household duties, Adda attempted to rekindle a fire by pouring kerosene upon wood containing dying embers; instantly an explosion occurred, hurling the contents of the can over her clothing, and immediately she was enveloped by fire. This was soon extinguished, but such injury was sustained that after four weeks of painful suffering, the poor spirit winged its way to the God who gave it. Love, power and skill ministered unto the sufferer, yet to no avail, except to prolong life. Through prayer, Adda found her sufferings easier to bear. She declared her trials of trust each person exercising faith in Christ may be saved. Adda, with her sister, Etta, (one even at parting) received the holy sacrament of baptism a few hours before death. A father and mother, one sister, four brothers and other relatives, with a host of friends and acquaintances mourn her death. The funeral services were held at Patterson, in the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Fred Warner on Friday at two p.m. Burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.
