Williams was born in Princeton, Scott county, Iowa, April 23, 1861 and died at her home in Anita, Iowa, Monday, February 10, 1908: aged 46 years, 9 months and 17 days. Addie A. Williams was born in Princeton, Scott county, Iowa, April 23, 1861 and died at her home in Anita, Iowa, Monday, February 10, 1908: aged 46 years, 9 months and 17 days. The deceased resided at the place of her birth until about 1887, when she came to this city, which has been her home since. She was united in marriage to John A. Irving, of this city, on June 29, 1893. Mrs. Irving was engaged in the millinery business in this city for a number of years, but on account of her health had to retire from the business in 1904. Besides her husband, she leaves four step daughters; Mrs. Jennie Robinson, Mrs. Maude King, Mrs. Edith Bangham, all of this city, and Mrs. Belle Copley, of Roswell, Idaho. Her Father and mother are both dead, and she leaves one brother, Charles E. Williams, of Council Bluffs. She had been a consistent Christian since childhood and a member of the M. E. church during her life. In the death of Mrs. Irving the community has indeed lost a most noble and Christian woman: one who was ever willing to assist to the fullest extent in the happiness of others: one who was ever ready to assist when sickness visited the homes of her friends or the needy. She suffered a stroke of paralysis about three years ago, since which time she could not take as active part in church and other work as she had in former years. About three weeks ago she suffered her second stroke of paralysis and for a short time it was thought no serious results would follow, but after the first few days she began to grow worse and it was seen by her relatives and friends that it was only a question of a short time until she would pass to that great beyond from which no traveler returns. She fully realized her condition and informed those near and dear to her that she was read to go. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. Stahl. The services were largely attended, attesting the high esteem in which she was held by the neighbors and friends among whom she had lived for so many years. The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery. The following appropriate verses, written at the time of the death of his own wife, were read during the services by Rev. Stahl, who kindly furnished us a copy for publication: -------------- Dear sainted wife: Alone I stand to-night Beside thy new made grave: To-day a hushed and tearful throng Stood with me at the open tomb And saw ty precious dust Committed to its final resting place. And heard the thrilling words "I am the resurrection and the Life." And: "Earth to earth and dust to dust" Fall soleman on the ear, and then We turned away with grief too deep For utterance and left our precious dead Alone in dreamless sleep. But. To-night, dear one. I come again when none can see or hear. And cast myself upon the mound That hides thy precious form and kiss The very clay. Baptizing with a chrism Of tears this sacred spot, thy dreamless couch. My grief. too sacred for man's idle gaze. I held pent up till now: and now alone I give it vent: without restraint I lavish mingled hoods of grief and love Above thy precious clay. -------------- I lingered o'er thy clay to-day And pressed thy folded hands. Paled thy cheekin ??? old way. Caressed thy brow and stroked thy hair. And spoke thy name and called Thee by the old pet names. But all in vain: no word, no smile, No answering caress. As in the dear old days. And yet I know Somewhere thy spirit lives And loves me in a deathless love: Somewhere thou waitest with the glad Caress to welcome me and take me To thy heart and say again The old sweet words. And now, dear wife, good night: I leave thee here to rest In holy, dreamless sleep: thine eyes Will never weep, thy gentle heart Will never throb with grief: In all thing earthly life thy tired form Ne'er pressed a couch So cool and soft as now: no wakeful hours.
