Reverend Martha Atkins will officiate, with burial in L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara. Adela died Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska. Adela Lydia Tikalsky, daughter of Joseph Holan and Antonia (Vesely) Holan, was born July 18, 1913, on the Holan Homestead near Niobrara. She attended country school Rural District 88 and graduated from Niobrara Public School in 1932, where she was active in the Sokol Group. Adela was married to Earl John Tikalsky on April 1, 1942, at the courthouse in Neligh, Nebraska. Two children were born to them: Lana and Jim. Adela was born in the farmhouse where she lived for 65 years. Earl and Adela raised Polled Herford cattle, hogs, chickens and all the farm products to feed and supply the operation. Adela was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, always tending a large garden and flock of poultry at the farmstead. She loved the baby chicks, ducks and geese, gathering eggs, gardening, canning and cooking. She continued to reminisce about "her chickens" even at the age of 100. In the fall of 1978, Earl and Adela retired and built a home in 'new' Niobrara. They had fruit trees and a large garden and Adela was an active gardener and baker into her 90s. Earl and Adela continued to assist with farm work after their retirement and especially enjoyed walking the pastures to cut weeds as long as they were able to do so. She continued to live in her home after Earl's death in August 1999. After having a stroke, Adela moved to Alpine Village Care Center in May 2013, two months short of her 100th birthday. Adella was a member of the WFLA (ZCBJ) Lodge #53, the Senior Center, and Ladies Afternoon Off. She was very active until her late 90s when age 'caught up' and her health slightly declined. Playing cards was a favorite past-time and Adela was still able to play a mean game of 10-point pitch at the age of 99. Adela died February 9, 2019, at Alpine Village in Verdigre at the age of 105. Survivors include children and spouses, Lana (Bill) Brewer of Omaha, Nebraska and Jim (Karen) Tikalsky of Niobrara. Adela had four grandchildren, Darren (Gina) Brewer of Gretna, Nebraska, Steve Brewer of Denver, CO, Jacque (Mychajlo) Eliaszewskyj of Colchester, England, and Alan Tikalsky of Lincoln, Nebraska; and nine great-grandchildren, Jack, Will, Hannah, and Max Brewer; Braxton and Bryson Brewer; and Lydia, Natalia, and Viktor Eliaszewskyj). Adela is also survived by nieces/nephews, Don Rathgeber, Verna Rathgeber Headley, Carma LaFrenz Kreitler, Mary Holan Schneider and Michael Holan. Adela was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; and her siblings, Elsie (Clark) Hoard, Irene (Albert) Rathgeber, Lillie (Walter) LaFrenz, Edwin Holan, and Elmer Holan.
