Smith, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Gundersen, at Nampa, Idaho, last Friday. Rev. A.G. White will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Exira Cemetery." "Adelaide Phipps was born February 1, 1854 in Virginia. On March 4____(?) she was united in marriage to Wm. C. Smith at Clarinda. To this union were born 2 sons, and 1 daughter; the 2 sons, Wm Alfred and Edwin Arthur, having preceded the mother to the Great Beyond about 35 years ago." "As a young waman, the deceased taught school and was a graduate of a university. She and her husband were pioneers in Audubon County, Iowa, at the death of her husband on Dec. 3, 1911. Mrs. Smith had gone to make her home with her daughter." "She was a member of the Christian Church, having been baptized many years ago at Exira by Rev. McQuarry, who was then pastor of that church. Surviving this dearly loved mother and sister is the daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Gundersen of Nampa, Idaho; 3 brothers: John Phipps of Audubon, Hugh Phipps of Panora and Wm Phipps of Upland, California; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a large number of nephews and nieces." Mrs. Smith had been ill for the past 3 years, bedfast the majority of the time. In addition, cateracts had formed over her eyes so that she completely lost sight of one eye two years ago; and the sight of the other eye was rapidly growing darker. Her suffering had been great, especially during the last month of her life, and it was...that the Savior had come in His gentle mercy when He released the Suffering Spirit at midnight of last Friday." "A lover of her grandchildren and interested in the activities, thoughtful toward all, considerate and kindly, her passing leaves a vacancy in the hearts of many."
