Description	:	Adelaide links to the Ferdinand family by being the 2nd wife of Arthur Gilman Ferdinand. She was the daughter of Marianna F. Jones of Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York, and the the granddaughter of the Hon. Elbert Harring Jones of Long Island. Her father was Alfred S. Jewell of South Hampton, New Hampshire. Jones of Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York, and the the granddaughter of the Hon. Elbert Harring Jones of Long Island. Her father was Alfred S. Jewell of South Hampton, New Hampshire. At 25 years of age, Adelaide was in business in Boston. She had her own millinery parlors at 120 Tremont Street opposite the Park Street Church, next to the New York Times. In 1912, she went abroad to England and France to buy hats. She was introduced to Arthur Ferdinand by a client of his and a customer of hers in 1917. They were married 1 January 1918. (Arthur's first wife was Hattie May Joslin, by whom he had two sons, Ralph, and Ernest. Arthur and Hattie divorced.) Arthur was 53 and Adelaide 45 at the time of their marriage. They lived at Garfield Street, Cambridge, Mass. and later in a small cottage on the banks of the PowWow River in South Hampton, New Hampshire. Arthur died there 26 Nov 1942. They went to St. Petersburg, Florida every winter starting in 1933. They had no children. Adelaide's sister shot her mother and herself. They are all buried in the South Hampton Cemetery. Adelaide was a very smart dresser, preferring to wear contrasting black and white outfits. After Arthur Ferdinand died, she married Mr. Lewis Hovey, publisher of the Haverhill Sunday Record and the Beverly Times. She died at the Whithall Nursing Home after a long illness.
