Description	:	CIVIL WAR SERVICE: Co. K, 26th Infantry, ME Vols. Enlist: 10 Sep 1862 Stockton, Muster In: 11 Oct 1862 Bangor, Muster Out: 17 Aug 1863 Bangor. Navy Enlistment: Enlist: Portland 6 Sep 1864. Served USS Sabine, Ohio, (both ‘receiver’ ships or barracks) and Rhode Island (a 1517 ton side-wheel steemer). Was a Substitute for James Thompson. Discharged 9 Aug 1865. In the book “History of the Twenty Sixth Maine Regiment” by Elden Maddocks (1899), page 307, we find “Enlisted at the age of twenty-two years from Stockton, Maine; he was sick in March 1863, with swamp fever, and... He married Miss Melvina Whittier of Searsport, November 24, 1863; they have two girls and one boy.
