Mary Collins ============================================================= Adelbert Hammond, son of William and Ollie (Dunigan) Hammond, was born February 21, 1869 near Shelbyville, Ky., and passed away at his home in Edgar on Oct. 2, 1955 aged 86 years, 7 months and 11 days. November 25, 1891 he was united in marriage to Sarah C. Long and in 1909 he, with his family, moved from Kentucky to Nebraska, farming near Davenport, Twenty years later Mr. and Mrs. Hammond moved into Edgar where last year they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond were the parents of twelve children, two of whom have preceded the father in death, these being a little daughter, Edna, who died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Kepplin who died in 1947. The children left to mourn his loss are Mrs. Letha Sieh of Grand Island; Walker Hammond of Edgar; Mrs. Stella Strawser of Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Avers of Davenport; Mrs. Mayme Thurber of Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Collins of Boise, Ida.; Albert Hammond of Edgar; Tandy Hammond of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Bessie Erickson of Burbank, Calif.; and Marion Hammond of Edgar. He is also survived by four brothers and four sisters, all but one of whom reside in Kentucky. They are Ernest who lives in Wyoming; Luther, Leonard and Bert, Mrs. Lillian Jamison, Mrs. Bertha Hughes, Mrs. Effie Perkins and Mrs. Maudie Jamison. These children, brothers and sisters together with his good wife, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends will miss his presence. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Edgar, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Harry Gleim. Mrs. Morley Braye, Mrs. Harold Beck, Robert Mikkelsen and J.M. McGhie sang, "Going Down the Valley," and "Good Night Here, Good Morning There," with Mrs. Robert Mikkelsen as accompanist. The flower committee consisted of Mrs. Clark Kinnison, Mrs. Ruth Schnittker and Mrs. James Emrich. The pallbearers were Wm. Culbertson, Harvey Countryman, Lester Scherbacker, Ed Watson, Chas.
