Description	:	Adelheid Bauhs, 87, of Waverly, passed away on Tuesday, Aug., 23, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Adelheid Magdalene Bauhs was born on May 23, 1924, the daughter of Friedrich William and Marie Louise (Kalusche) Knappe (both originally from Germany) in St. Sebald. She has lived in Waverly since 1928, first attending St. Paul's Lutheran Parochial school, where she learned to read and write English. In 1942 she graduated from Waverly High School. Read More	Adelheid Bauhs, 87, of Waverly, passed away on Tuesday, Aug., 23, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Adelheid Magdalene Bauhs was born on May 23, 1924, the daughter of Friedrich William and Marie Louise (Kalusche) Knappe (both originally from Germany) in St. Sebald. She has lived in Waverly since 1928, first attending St. Paul's Lutheran Parochial school, where she learned to read and write English. In 1942 she graduated from Waverly High School. After graduating from school, she worked at Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Co. and International Harvester. In 1948, she was united in marriage to Leonard A. Bauhs and celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2001. She returned to work after raising their four children, working at the Wartburg College Library from 1968 to 1990 when she retired. While working at the library, Adelheid started a tradition of making birthday cakes for Wartburg students and continued that into her retirement years. Also Adelheid and Leonard were active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church into their retirement years. Survivors are her daughter, Mary Strong of Atlantic; three sons, Leonard John (Gail) Bauhs of Vancouver, Wash., Paul Bauhs of Decorah, and Mark (Linda) Bauhs of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; one great–granddaughter; and a sister, Hanna Langholz of Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard A. Bauhs on Oct. 11, 2001; and by a son-in-law, Steve Strong. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating. Private family inurnment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Published in Waverly Democrat from August 31 to September 7, 2011
