Adeline Claris Easterby was born July 6, 1923, at Andover, S.D., to Lincoln Ione Fuller and Esther (Hammer) Easterby. Her dad named her "Sweet Adeline" which sums up her sweet spirit. As a little girl, she loved to play baseball and also to play with her dolls. She completed 11 years of school. She was engaged at 19 to Leo Napton, her WWII sweetheart. Adeline received her engagement ring in the mail. She waited 4 years for Leo to return home from serving in WWII. They were married on Oct. 25, 1945, in Aberdeen, S.D. Adeline gave birth to six children; three boys and three girls: Lincoln, Darrel, Roger, Karen, Carol and Julie. Leo and Adeline farmed together and raised children near the Barnard/Frederick area. Adeline loved the farm life. Her gift was to serve others. She cooked many meals for harvesters, family and neighbors. After the farm life in 1969, they moved into the town of Frederick. Leo and Adeline owned and operated the Gingerbread House Cafe together. Again, serving others, Adeline loved to cook and bake. She and Leo were charter members of the Church of God in Aberdeen. She was known for her pies, especially for church raffles. She also played guitar in the family Gospel band. Her memory lives on with her husband, Leo Napton of Frederick, S.D., two sons, Darrel Napton of Frederick, S.D., Roger (Debbie) Napton of Brunswick, Neb., three daughters, Karen Napton of Frederick, S.D., Carol Napton of Mitchell, S.D., Julie Napton of Bristol, S.D., two brothers, Severt Easterby of Auburn, Wash., Nels Easterby of Miller, S.D., one sister, Marilyn Van Beek of Aberdeen, S.D., ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, son-in-law, Phil Story, daughter-in-laws, Becky Napton and Alice Napton, and special friends, Kim Schimmel, Todd Loken and Marjo Waddington. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lincoln Napton, and two brothers, Jim Easterby and Elmo Easterby and two brothers in infancy. Honorary casket bearers will be LeRoy Ham and Phil Story. Casket bearers will be Daniel Napton, Travis Napton, Chris Napton, Sean Napton, Kenny Ham and Lee Klitzke.
